These must be recorded as D for ' (dagger) and A for * (asterisk) in last (6th) character.
Certain codes have symbols which denote dagger and asterisk pairs and which are marked as ' or *. However, these 5th digits are not necessary in the UK, so a warning will be given. All chapters and sections of the ICD10 may be used, although the use of morphology codes is confined, for central returns, to cancer registration. Morbidity coding rules for Scotland will be found in the Scottish version of the Clinical Coding Instruction Manual (CCIM) and Coding Guidelines/Quarterlies. Most, but not all, of these rules apply in Scotland. The tabular list (Volume I) and index (Volume 3) are accompanied by Volume 2, which contains the WHO guidelines for morbidity and mortality coding. The ICD10 has been published in three volumes.
